Foreigners can rent a house in Thailand for sure. There are a lot of expats living in Thailand with their families who prefer to live in a house than a condo its simply because when you have a child you need to have a bigger place for them to rent a house in Thailand all you need is your passport and cash.
Note: Some of the landlords sometimes check your visa too!
